It would be fair to say that the perma-tanned, Essex X-Factor contestant has caused more controversy than terrible twosome Jedward did way back when they sang over the top of a fellow auditionee during bootcamp. He's got every newspaper from here to New Jersey talking about the show and he's definately got judge Gary Barlow hot under the collar, resulting in a dramatic walk out that will only help ratings further - Everyone loves a drama.
But in the midst of all the excitement ,this storyline has highlighted a very bad side to us Brits.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't know why Rylan is where he is. He's annoying, his voice doesn't hold up to those of his fellow co-stars and he takes camp to all whole new level, but then one could say that about Madonna and she did alright for herself.
The guy is simply following his dream and whether that's to be a fame whore or a pop artist, we should all be wishing him the best because he's got the balls to get where he wants to be. There's thousands of people in this world that simply aren't prepared to fight for what they want - and death threats ....really??!!
Once upon a time they were reserved for rapists and paedophiles and in a country claiming to be so Cosmopolitan where are all these homophobes coming from?
The whole thing casts such a bad light on Britain after we have enjoyed such a positive year.
Love Rylan or hate him but find the line and don't cross it. There's worse things in this world than a song sung out of tune.
