It seems poor old Cheryl (we aren't allowed to call her Cheryl Cole anymore after she FINALLY got rid of Trashley Cole; footballer, liar, cheat and all round prat), has taken a bit of a beating again this week, with critics crowing from their shit stained perches that they simply can't believe her single Call My Name, actually made it to the top spot.
I can't help but ask myself ...er....WHY?!
Cheryl has, throughout her entire career, demonstrated a genuine passion for her art, she is one of the most hard working women in pop and is not afraid to experiment with dance, fashion or 'her sound.' Not only that but she weathered the storm of her doomed marriage with dignity and grace, choosing not to sell her story or to slate her ex for a bit of extra cash(when quite frankly no-one would have blamed the girl) and she has worked hard to create opportunities for disadvantaged youths by launching The Cheryl Cole Foundation with the help of The Princes Trust.
Okay so her performance was a bit ropey during the concert for the Queen's Jubilee, but, and I know I'm asking for backlash here, she wasn't the only one to go a little off key.....Elton....McCartney....I'm talking to you boys. Whenever she mimes, it's usually because she's undertaking one hell of a dance routine at the time and to be fair folks...the girl quite spectacularly wrapped music mogul Simon Cowell right around her little finger, even squeezing an apology out of him....how can you not be impressed by any woman capable of that?!
Her breezy personality and cheeky sense of humour kept us glued to X-factor and I challenge any of you to find a person, male or female, that at some point in the lives hasn't had a bit of a crush on her!
The trouble is with us British (and it makes me so sad to say that after how proud I felt of my nationality during the Jubilee) is that we cannot cope with success, or more accurately successful people. Whether it comes from jealousy, boredom or just a terrible addiction to a good bitch, we cannot help but hoist folks up on to pedestals before battering them back down again.
Cheryl went to number one because her song's pretty catchy, it's guaranteed to be a big club hit over the summer and she looks pretty good in the video. Who cares what the critics say. Lets celebrate British talent instead of berating it!
