Justice for Louis

Congratulations to the justice system for finally getting it right today when it jailed Leonard Watters, the man who falsely accused X Factor judge Louis Walsh of groping him in a night club last year, for six months.

It’s just a shame the sentence wasn’t longer.

Mr Watters, a twenty four year old father of two, saw an opportunity for fame and fortune and grasped it, even contacting PR Guru Max Clifford to sell his ‘harrowing story,’ totally disregarding the cost of his lies on others. Not only could he have destroyed an innocent man’s life and career, people like Watters also make it harder for those who genuinely have suffered at the hands of a sexual attack to gain justice in court. Already the numbers of cases that actually receive a guilty verdict are less than half the number of sexual crimes reported and, despite the efforts of most national constabularies to provide an effective service for dealing with reports of sexual crimes, many victims find still themselves at the hands of the postcode lottery. People like Watters simply make matters harder by wasting police time and casting doubt over the accounts of genuine sufferers.

I may not agree with Louis Walsh on many things – namely Goldie, Jedward and Wagner – but I wholeheartedly raise my glass to him today. Congratulations on this fantastic result and best wishes for your future. May Watters and those who continue to lie through their teeth for financial reward or revenge, learn a valuable lesson from all of this. Louis is lucky that he is so widely loved and known by so many people, for those others falsely accused picking up the pieces is not so easy.
